Nature Garden Gambia is a beautiful privately owned three-acre (1.3 hectare) walled garden with simple housing and outbuildings situated in the bush village of Bakary Sambouya, Brikama, The Gambia.
The land was first purchased in early 2001 and since that time many local, and visiting, people have contributed to the conservation and transformation of the land into an organic and safe environment in which indigenous flora, fauna and wildlife thrive. It has also naturally developed as a place of employment, accommodation, education and refuge for many young people and is now ripe to enter a new phase of focused development for the alternative education, child protection and support of young people and women within the community.
In June 2018 a Purchase Sales Agreement between Margaret Roberton, the original owner, and Lamin Dahaba and Sourakata Sibi was completed with purchase to be completed within three years. Lamin Dahaba is the founder of Rock Base Charity Foundation, a charity committed to child protection and women’s rights in The Gambia. Sourakata Sibi is a private philanthropist and community builder who works internationally.
The aim is that the Nature Garden and its owners will collaborate with individuals and nonprofits to act as a base for future development and community building/education.
